Green Shield will make your home or business cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter, while drastically reducing your utility bills. It’s installed directly over your existing insulation and never needs to be replaced or added to. Designed for energy saving and quality performance, it resists 97% of radiant heat and emits only 3% of radiant heat. Green Shield is made in the USA and comes with a 25 year warranty.

Here's How

Green Shield is installed on top of your existing insulation in your attic and will resist heat from leaving your dwelling in the winter and resist heat from coming in your dwelling in the summer. It’s that simple.

It Resists Radiant Heat

Radiant heat makes its way into your attic in the summer and heats up objects not space, so your insulation absorbs this and transfers that heat into your home and that’s why late at night when it’s cool outside it’s still hot in your attic and your home. In the winter heat rises to leave but the shield slows down this process by resisting it, so your dwelling stays warmer longer.

What is the R-Value (or R-Rating) of Radiant Barrier Foil Insulation?

R-Value is a term to describe how quickly heat will pass through (or be absorbed) by a product. This testing to designate an R-value only applies to conductive heat flow, not radiant heat flow. Conductive heat will only pass through a solid object (or several objects that are in contact with one another – like the layers of your roof on your home). Radiant heat is heat that passes through a gas or a vacuum, so this is the kind of heat the sun produces that radiates to earth until it is absorbed or reflected.

Every product has a different R-Value. For example, wood has an R-Value of 1 for each inch of wood; so three inches of wood has an R-Value of 3. Styrofoam or EPS (expanded Polystyrene) has an R-Value of 3.85 per inch; therefore, three inches of Styrofoam will have an R-value of over 11. This is a great real-life example of why we don’t make coffee cups out of wood, Styrofoam keeps the heat in longer! This might surprise you, but radiant barrier foil on its own has no R-Value!

This is important to understand because radiant barrier does not take the place of traditional insulation (fiberglass, cellulose, etc.). Traditional attic insulation has R-value; this works to slow conductive heat. Radiant barriers reflect radiant heat; both conductive and radiant heat are trying to enter your home on a hot, summer day (or leave on a winter day when you are running the heat inside).

The sun heats up the roof and then the heat is transferred by radiant heat across the attic space until it hits the attic insulation. Then, the heat transfer method switches from radiant heat to conductive heat to move through the attic insulation and into your home. This is why you need BOTH types of insulation. Traditional attic insulation and radiant barrier work together and each do their part. Radiant barrier is your first line of defense (against radiant heat) and traditional attic insulation (fiberglass or cellulose) is the second line of defense against conductive heat gain.

What It's Made Of

Green Shield is a 5-ply product made of double-faced aluminum reinforced with Poly Ethylene woven fabric to enhance tensile strength, tear resistance, and durability. This makes Green Shield stronger than other foil-faced and foam reflective insulation, which can be easily torn. Our PE woven foil insulation has tough, tear-proof features that make it a one of a kind of product.

Your environment will have an enhanced comfort level. AC units and heat pumps will work less, extending the life of your units. Prevents water leakage, dampness and draft protection in return preventing mildew, mold and rotting. Our Green Shield is environmentally friendly, safe, and non-toxic.

Green Shield conforms to ASTM E84 test standards for surface burning characteristic of building materials and also to NFPA 255, ANSI/UL 723 and U8C8-1 test methods. Green Shield received the following ASTM E84 Test results:

Flame Spread – Index 25 or less Smoke Developed – Index 50 or less Fire Rating –Class1/ Class A.
